The Hewitt School

Located on East 76th Street directly off of 5th Avenue, the Hewitt School provides a much needed facility for the School’s K-3 elementary level programs.

To create this necessary space for its students, the Hewitt School chose to convert an existing 5-story landmark brownstone from its former residential function into a state-of-the-art educational facility.

Major project considerations were the introduction of new fire stairwells and elevators, along with the installation of new fire alarm, sprinkler and MEP systems. Additionally, the use of high end finishes, including custom millwork bookcases, designer grade wall coverings and floorings, required special care in installation.

As part of the renovation, a complete facade restoration was performed in keeping with New York City Landmark Agency regulations. Components of the facade restoration included new lead glass windows, limestone restorations and the construction of new glass and copper sunrooms.

In order to complete the aggressive schedule required by the Hewitt School, of 8 months from demolition to occupancy, RCDolner utilized precise scheduling and forecasting methods to allow for the seamless progression of the project.
